Why it exists

Two sellers with automatic repricers can destroy a listing in a weekend

Not through strategy — through arithmetic. Each one undercuts by a cent, every few minutes, until the price is under everybody’s cost and nobody notices until the settlement lands.

Today

Repricing without a floor

  • ×The floor is a round number somebody typed in once, unrelated to what the unit actually cost.
  • ×The repricer competes with a merchant who has one unit, no feedback and no intention of restocking.
  • ×You match a price war down to the bone and only see the damage weeks later in the settlement report.
  • ×Set-and-forget means a listing can sit out of the Buy Box for a month with nobody noticing.
  • ×Ageing stock keeps its optimistic price right up to the day the long-term storage fee arrives.
With MobyPricer

Repricing inside guard rails

  • ✓The floor is computed: landed cost, fees, and the minimum profit you decided you will accept.
  • ✓You choose the competition — ignore sellers below a rating, ignore merchant-fulfilled offers, ignore one-unit listings.
  • ✓When winning would mean breaking the floor, MobyPricer holds and reports it instead of chasing.
  • ✓Buy Box share is measured by the hour, so a listing you have quietly lost shows up as a number.
  • ✓Ageing units can walk down toward the floor on a schedule you approved, before storage does it for you.
What it does

Repricing decisions, made explicit

Every rule below exists so that the outcome of a price war is a decision you made in advance rather than a surprise.

01

A floor built from real numbers

Landed cost from MobyScan, plus fees, plus your minimum ROI. It is a calculation, not a guess, and it recalculates when a fee changes underneath you.

02

Choose who counts as competition

Filter by fulfilment method, seller rating, feedback count, stock depth and Buy Box eligibility. A merchant-fulfilled seller with two units and no history should not be setting your price.

03

Strategies by SKU or category

Aggressive on fast movers, patient on slow ones, and a hold-the-price mode for products where you have genuine pricing power. Apply per SKU, per category or per supplier.

04

Velocity and age awareness

Moby AI reads how a SKU is actually selling. Units ageing toward a storage surcharge can ease toward the floor on a schedule; when a competitor runs dry, the price walks back up.

05

Buy Box win analytics

The share you held, the hours you lost, and which competitor took it. Repricing without this is just changing numbers and hoping.

06

Guard rails that do not bend

Amazon’s own minimum and maximum, MAP agreements, a per-SKU override and a global never-below-cost switch that no rule and no model can talk its way past.

How it works

Set it up once, then supervise

The first hour of configuration is the whole job. After that MobyPricer should mostly be something you check, not something you operate.

01

Establish the floor

Pull landed costs from your own data, add fees, set the minimum profit you will accept. Per SKU, per category, or one rule for everything.

Never below cost
02

Define the competition

Decide which sellers you are actually competing with. Most of the damage in a price war comes from reacting to offers you should have ignored.

Competitor filters
03

Choose a strategy

Match, undercut by a set amount, hold, or let the AI balance velocity against margin within the boundaries you have set.

04

Review the wins and losses

Buy Box share by hour, price history per SKU, and the moments where the floor stopped a sale. Adjust from evidence rather than instinct.

The number everything hangs on

A floor is not a round number you feel comfortable with

It is the price below which a sale actively costs you money, and it moves every time a fee or a freight rate moves. MobyPricer computes it from the same landed cost your accounting uses, so the answer is the same in both places — and so a change in fees updates your prices instead of quietly eating your margin.

  • Landed cost arrives from MobyScan at sourcing and stays on the unit.
  • Referral and fulfilment fees are pulled per SKU, so the floor is right for that size tier and category.
  • Your minimum acceptable profit is a policy you set, not something a model is allowed to negotiate away.
  • When a fee schedule changes, every affected floor moves that night and you get a list of what shifted.
“
Losing the Buy Box costs you a sale. Winning it below cost costs you the business.

MobyPricer is built around that asymmetry: compete hard to the floor, and never one cent past it.

MobyPricer,
in detail

The questions that decide whether a seller trusts a repricer with their catalogue.

How quickly does it react to a price change?

MobyPricer watches your listings continuously and acts within Amazon’s own update limits. In practice the reaction speed is rarely what decides a price war — the floor and the competitor filters are. A repricer that reacts in seconds to a seller you should have ignored is faster at losing money.

Do I have to give it my cost data?

For a real floor, yes. If landed cost is missing, MobyPricer can fall back to a percentage-based minimum, but that is a stopgap: it protects a number rather than a margin. Costs captured by MobyScan flow in on their own, which is the point of keeping them in one system.

Can it break Amazon’s pricing policies?

It works within them. Your Seller Central minimum and maximum are respected as hard boundaries, and MAP agreements can be entered per SKU so a rule cannot push a price under a contractual floor. Fair pricing policy violations usually come from unguarded automation, which is precisely what the guard rails exist to prevent.

What if I am the only seller on a listing?

Then there is no race, and MobyPricer should not invent one. Hold mode keeps your price where you set it, with an optional slow test upward to find the ceiling. It will alert you when a new seller arrives.

How does the AI differ from the rules?

The rules decide what is allowed; the AI decides where to sit inside that. It reads sell-through rate, stock age, competitor behaviour and seasonality to choose a position between the floor and the ceiling. It cannot widen the boundaries you set — only choose within them.

Can I exclude specific SKUs?

Yes, individually or by category, supplier or tag. Some products should simply never be repriced automatically, and pretending otherwise is how sellers end up distrusting the whole tool.

What happens when my offer is not Buy Box eligible?

You will see it, which is more than most sellers get. Suppression, condition mismatches and eligibility problems appear in the win analytics rather than silently looking like a losing streak.

Will it push prices up as well as down?

Yes. When the cheaper competitor sells out or leaves the listing, holding an artificially low price is just a donation. Upward moves respect your ceiling and any MAP rule you have set.
